Underwhelming and unsafe hostel option

Hostel is in a good location with all Warsaw attractions under 45 minute walk away. But beyond that... really not a great place to stay. The place felt very unsafe: all the rooms had manual door locks which means you had to rely on everyone locking everything up... which rarely happened. The two other entrance doors to our dorm didn't lock either so someone could feasibly walk in from anywhere. Stayed in a 4 person dorm, bed was okay, but the "curtains" for the bottom bunks were blankets velcroed to the sides which kept falling down, and the top bunks had no way to obscure light. Plug in my locker didn't work and so couldn't charge my phone securely (as mentioned above, wouldn't charge it by my bed due to the lack of locks). Bathroom was decent but only 1 between multiple dorms so sometimes had to queue which isn't ideal. Some of the staff were lovely and helpful, others were quite confrontational and rude, so really depended on who you spoke to as to what help you got during your stay.

Top Notch Location but a Little Noisy

We stayed in the large room and really enjoyed the location. We are walkers and found we were pretty centrally located with a 40 minute walk to Old Town, 30 minutes to Warsaw Uprising Museum, 15 minutes to Palace of Culture and Science, 3 minute walk to Hala Koszyki and a 20 minute walk to Lazienki Park. Every direction we went there was something to see. A big plus for the location was that we were surrounded by many fantastic restaurants, bars and cafes. The beds were decently comfy but the hostel is in an older building and being so close to the bars meant the street below was occasionally noisy. The hostel is quite clean and charming though. We appreciated that we had a kitchen with cookware and plates but we hadn't planned to use it - could have probably saved a few dollars if we did though. The large room we stayed in was nicely appointed with a table, chairs and TV. We found the room got a little warm at times but the big windows did a good job at cooling it down but I don't think I would choose this place in hot weather because people can be noisy until 1 in the morning and it would take away from my sleep. As far as we know there is not an elevator in this building and it is quite a hike to get to the third floor to check in so if you have mobility issues you may want to reconsider staying at this hostel. The area for check in has a kitchen and a place to hangout so might be worthwhile if you booked a shared room. There are some small balconies that belong to the hostel so you can sit on them with a book or have a smoke. We were a little surprised that despite booking a large room we did not have a private bathroom. If you need a private bathroom make sure that it says that in the description of the room or you will settle for shared. We didn't mind because the bathroom was clean and available whenever we needed it. We shared it with three other rooms and had no issues with cleanliness during our stay. The hostel only provides a small bottle of soap per person so you may want to consider bring your own shampoo. If the bathroom was unavailable we had the option of using one in another area of the hostel. Check in was kind of fun because it is next to the area where people can hang out so I had troubles hearing the lady at the counter. They understand that their stairs are a little bit of a maze so they will help you get to your room. The key they gave us had a door code so we could get in on our own. You will need to have a smaller bill (ie 5 Euros) for deposit for the room. We were told that we could exit through the stairs near our room but the door was locked when we stayed and we couldn't figure out how to open it. Overall it was a pleasant stay and we found it was a good, inexpensive and central base for us while we explored Warsaw.

Your average stay, nothing more. The hostel is located quite centrally to major landmarks, about 30min walk to the old town. It’s a very old building so don’t expect any luxury, and when you’re coming in winter time make sure you bring warm PJ’s. During check in we were told that each key comes with a 20zl deposit, I gave the receptionist 50zl expecting to get the rest back. When I asked for it she told me with an attitude that ‘that’s not how it works mr’, and that whatever I give her gets put in the deposit box which I will get back at checkout.

The reservation application is very unintuitive. I clicked 2 days, but it only booked me for 1 night. I tried to rebook, but the staff was also not very helpful. The bed was very uncomfortable and the wifi connection was very bad.

I wish I could leave a good review. Unfortunately I cannot really. I do wanna start off by saying that the female receptionist was truly lovely. There have been a number of things however that make it impossible for me to leave a good review. Firstly, they decided to change the code you need to get back into the building after 11pm, but they didn’t change it on the keys. They also forgot to change it on the paper on the inside of the door in the rooms. They just give you a piece of paper when you check in, which I didn’t realize had a different code on it than the one on my key. So I was stuck outside at 11.30 or so. I rung reception, but no one was there. I’d booked this hostel cause on Hostelworld it says there is 24 hour reception. Also when I tried calling them using the phone number on google maps, no one picked up. Secondly, I asked if they could wash my clothes in the evening. The Ukrainian guy who works behind reception told me that was possible and that it would be ready the same evening at about 10.45 pm. When I got there, it turned out the wash wasn’t ready yet, so he asked me if I wanted to pick it up the next day. I told him that was ok. The next day I picked up my wash, only to find out it’s still wet. So the other guy who was working that day put it into the bag while he must have felt that it was still wet and decided nonetheless to proceed putting it into my bag. Then the third point is even more ridiculous in my opinion. I was staying in the most expensive (4 bed) dorm, but it didn’t have a bathroom in it. As we were having drinks at one of the bars that looks out over the hostel, my friend told me that when he stayed at the hostel a few days before he stayed in the dorm one floor below mine - and that that one did have a bathroom in it and that he even paid less for it. So the next day I asked the receptionist if that room was still available. I even asked for that specific room. He told me that was a private room, even though my friend had stayed in it a few nights before. I told him I would be checking out instead. Then he told my friend the same thing, but my friend told him that that was obviously not true as he had stayed in that dorm himself a few nights before. Then he had to basically confess that what he said had been a lie. Then he came up to me and told me that I could stay in that room after all. I told him I was gonna stick to my plan to check out, as honestly, this guy was getting on my nerve. He had clearly been lying to me, he obviously hadn’t cared about my wet wash a few days before and generally his attitude was anything but what you’d expect from a receptionist. Then to add insult to injury he refused to let me store my bags in the storage area, claiming that it was only for current guests and not for former guests. Obviously this is ridiculous. I’ve stayed at hundreds of hostels in my life and the very room serves to store the baggage of former guests. I also had previously stored baggage in that very room as I’d checked out. In my country this kind of rude behavior is fireable behavior for a receptionist. I typically don’t like to be responsible for someone’s getting fired, but with this guy I couldn’t care less if he lost his job. And the reason I’m saying this isn’t just because of these incidents. Ironically, my friend told me he had the very same thing where his whole service attitude got on his nerve. I’d already felt that he would always make me wait when I would walk up to him at reception, that he would attend to other (often polish speaking) guests while I was in line before them, and my friend noticed that he was talking to people on his own cellphone (which, unless it’s someone from the hostel or an absolute emergency, is obviously unacceptable). And on top of that, he speaks poor English. So overall, the girl I dealt with was wonderful (apparently there are two, my friend told me, but the one I dealt with was truly great - five stars for her). The cleaner also seems like a nice woman. The other guy (the Ukrainian guy) wasn’t great, but he seemed to be trying to be somewhat service minded in his own particular way. One last thing I wanna say: fortunately, I wasn’t in Warsaw on a business visit. If I would have been, this would have been a terrible place to stay. Not in the least cause you want a hostel to be a place where you can relax. You don’t want to stay at a place where the receptionist stresses you out.
